About Good Music

Good music was started decades ago when I realized just how much I was connected to music. From a young age it was apparent I was more connected to music, or it was more important to me, than most. I was 5 or 6 when I got my first record player. I had two next to each other by 11 or 12 years old. I hardly cared about TV. I never got into video games. It was all about music. All kinds of music. I listened to the radio or cassettes when I wasn't at home. I always had music playing. By high school, it was expected that I would have my boom box at every sports team practice and event, and made mix tapes for anyone who would listen. I was always turning people on to new music, and excited to hear what they wanted me to hear. Music is a spiritual gift, and boy did I have it. At the same time, I was, unbeknownst to me, exhibiting the gift of service. I got my first job in 7th grade, and have not looked back. I worked my way up through the job force from pushing a broom in a laundromat all the way to developing entire neighborhoods from farmlands. It wasn't until a few years ago that I realized it is possible to put those two gifts together and achieve an even higher level of satisfaction in my life.

Several years ago I engaged in a handful of conversations that would change my entire direction in life. My wife Heather had an excellent career opportunity that would re-shape our household dynamic, blessing me with the opportunity to be a stay at home dad to my two youngest children, Madyson and Grace. After much consideration, I resigned my position as superintendent for that developer and Heather accepted her new career opportunity. It was also a great time to dive deeper than ever into my passion, music. In that time I had a life changing conversation with my sister, Tracey, who is an absolute rock star at life in general, in which she set me to pondering the question "Imagine you had a career in which you woke up every morning and couldn't wait to get to work. What would that work be? What would that look like for you?" I am currently living that out. I get to take my daughters to school every day, then go home and spend my days building custom DJ setups, song lists, working on positive stuff with new people every day. I get to have a giant studio for a living room. I get to teach my daughters music on a level I never even thought possible. I get to imagine new sets and themes for school dances. I get to DJ for a gymnasium full of kids and share the love for Taylor Swift. I get to work with brides and grooms on such fun stuff as integrating their decor into my equipment and playing their grandparent's "song" so they can dance to it 50 years later. This is an amazing journey and I hope to share a leg of it with you. Please, call or email and let's throw a huge party!
